We have just gotten a Yorkie puppy, she's 9 wks old, can we use anti-flea shampoo on her or is she too young?

It's just bthat we saw some shampoos for fleas which said don't use on puppies under 12 wks old? A bit confusing, because if she has fleas what can we do with her?

We also bought those puppy training indoor pads, do we change those pads evert time she pee's and poo's.....actually we don't change it every time she pee's but we have been changing it every time she poo's....she poo's 4, 5 or 6 times a day! Plus the poo is soft, thought it should be solid....we fed her some dogfood in jelly stuff yesterday and today we are only feeding her dry puppy food......only dry stuff from now on. We also have those treat things for her and chewy dental sticks.

when my shih tzu was small I got a spray at Pet Smart for puppies under a year. Every 28/29 days I sprayed him with it and he was fine.

I think the shampoo will be too harsh since she is still so young and really shouldnt be bathed that often at this age

And you need to stop changing her food... its probably upsetting her stomach. And at this age the best food for her is small bite size kibble. the chewing on the Kibble will help develop her teeth.

My pup is also wee wee pad trained but i started walking him in the morning and evenings and noticed I dont have to change the wee wee pad but its there in the event that he needs it. Try doing that... wee wee pad training is fine but if you take the time to walk the dog its healthier and is actually less of a mess We have just gotten a Yorkie puppy, she's 9 wks old, can we use anti-flea shampoo on her or is she too young?
No flea shampoos under 12 weeks of age! However, Frontline Plus which is a topical flea ointment may be safely used on pups as young as 8 weeks old. It goes by weight, and works great!

She needs just dry food which is good for her teeth and will also help with the consistency of her stool.

As for chewy dental sticks, read the package. Some are not recommended for pups until they are 6 months old, such as Greenies.
Hey, i am sorry to break the news to ya but regular flea shampoos just give you shiny fleas, they do not work at all, get a flea treatment that is suitable from the vets and only wash her in gentle shampoos at such a young age, baby shampoo is what i use on puppies, until they are around 4 months old, good luck
I used to breed Pomeranians. And when they were very young, I chose to use tearless baby shampoo on them, so as not to hurt their eyes. Another breeder said it's too harsh for their fur and I said ';If I can use that on my children and can darn sure use it one a dog!!!';

It also killed the fleas.
this does'nt answer your question,but I tell new owners of yorkie pups that 90% of them have low blood sugar.They need to be given karo syrup once in the a.m and once in p.m.A small amount on your finger for them to lick will be enough.I've been told they outgrow this by 1 yr.old.Enjoy your yorkie,they are wonderful.
I would not use flea shampoo on one this young. Any shampoo actually kills the fleas if left on a minute anyway. There is lots of information here for you plus a grooming page. Go to the Yorkie Information page.
I can't use any flea shampoo's on my dogs because I'm allergic to it. I use Dawn dish soap (original)! Leave it on for a few minutes and it ';smothers'; the fleas! Very safe for your puppy, no medication, and it works for me! Good luck!
please dont use flea shampoo on a young puppy, try taking him to the vets, or you can even call the vets and ask them, please please dont use it, it could be harmful
